about

"(South by East) is a wonderful debut release." — Barry Maxwell, Blues on the Hill Radio.

"A real authentic approach to the blues...world class!" — David Roman, 2SSRFM Mystery Train.

Neil has played guitar on countless blues, funk, r&b, country, jazz, and rock gigs for over 15 years, including national and international tours (Glastonbury Festival with Melbourne soul singer Chelsea Wilson, New Caledonia with Street funk outfit Deep Street Soul, Wangaratta Jazz Festival, Australia), and is now on a mission to bring his own r&b-based blues to the world.

As a vocalist/guitarist/bandleader, Neil's influences include Robben Ford, Keb' Mo', BB King, Little Feat, Freddie King, Larry Carlton, Ray Charles, Paul Williamson's Hammond Combo, Ray Beadle and great singer-songwriters of the 70s.

The debut album, "South By East", features some of Melbourne’s most seasoned and soulful musicians (from diverse acts such as the Rockwiz Orchestra, Mondo Rock, Things of Stone and Wood, Jon Butler Trio, Cirque du Soleil, Jetty Road and more) and is produced by Mitch Cairns (Russell Morris, Phil Manning, Renee Geyer, Leo Sayer, Glenn Shorrock, Joe Robinson, Diesel, amongst others).

Track Name: South by East
They’re hangin’ out at Kent Street,
Sipping mulled wine on Daddy’s wage.
While the downtown beggars
Are scrimpin’ for coins for an ice-capade.
It’s raining down in Bleak City,
But no one cares in the least.
I’m coming home, South by East.

We’re swingin’ on St David Street, North of the river,
The B3’s in a spin.
The Lygon losers and their tracky dack schmoozers,
Trying hard just to fit in.
I’ve seen Freedom from Staten Island
And the Village as a breathing beast.
But I’m coming home, South by East.

I was standing out in the rain,
Now I’m standing in the sun.
We get a whole year, here in a day,
A little bit of change never hurt no-one.
Been to the banks of the Mississippi,
And I ate me a Beale Street feast.
Now I’m coming home, South by East.
